Dealing with

Changes & Transitions

Helping you accept and face life’s changes

Change can be a loaded word, even when it is constantly happening. It may come as a surprise sometimes, some others it could be weeks, months or years of anticipation and dread. Changes can present new opportunities along with hardship. Times preceding moves can be painfully scary. Frequently, after it happens, it is not bad at all, or it is more tolerable than one would think. These ideas deserve a pause in our day and a re-assessment of the situation. Anticipation is fueled by fantasies. Sometimes those turn into panic.

No matter what you are going through, having someone to talk to and collaborate with you in working through your experience can help. Our psychiatrists’s multi-faceted approach will help engage with your concerns and provide you with tools to grow. When adapting to change in your life, therapy can be a powerful guide through difficult times. Not every treatment plan involves prescription medication. We will find the right treatment to help you.

Life Changes

Going to college for the first time, starting a new job, getting married, accepting a job far away, the onset of illness, close loved ones going through challenges, retirement, selling your house and moving, children: when they arrive and when they leave…when they get their first car.

Some ideas are worth considering. Change can be good. Dealing with adversity gives us experience and hope for dealing with future challenges.

In the course of life, transitions that prove challenging, also prove to be a source of self-assurance. Those “ I did it” become the building blocks to “I can, I do, I have”. These ideas deserve a pause in our day and a re-assessment of the situation.

It would be unthinkable to express some ideas to friends or relatives, for worries about the impact and repercussions on how they relate to us. When the question “Hi, how are you?” is posed, no one expects a very long answer, although you may very well have a lot going on. Having a situation where you can explore the real answer without judgement is far more reassuring and productive.

Transitions in Life

There are many examples of transitions in life. Getting married, accepting a job far away, deciding to get out of a toxic or loveless relationship, the onset of illnesses, close loved ones going through their own challenges, a loved one being less available, retirement and the time around it, giving up the house and downsizing, children: when they arrive and when they leave…when they get the first car.

Some ideas are worth considering: change can be good. Dealing with adversity the first time gives us hope to deal with the next challenges.
